Day 1 Auckland / Coromandel
Depart Auckland and cross to the East Coast to pristine beaches
and dramatic coastlines. Visit the home of New Zealand’s most
famous potter, then ride the “Bush Railway” through the forest.
Walk along the beach before crossing to Pauanui Beach.
Accommodation:
Grand Mercure, Puka Park Resort for three nights. (L,D)
Day 2 Coromandel, Mercury Bay, Hot Water Beach
This morning enjoy a short walk to a stunning beach where
you can relax. Discover beaches and Maori Pa (fort) sites,
and if tides permit, stop at Hot Water Beach to see and feel
geothermal heated water and steam rise out of the sand. (B,L)
Day 3 Coromandel, Glow Worms & Beaches
Discover the Coromandel Peninsula. Start with a walk through
a beautiful regenerated Kauri forest full of towering fern trees,
followed by a tour of an underground jail. Be enchanted by the
light of glow worms in an old gold mine. After lunch, stroll to a
secluded beach to see rare birds and visit a bird sanctuary. (B,L)
Day 4 Martha Goldmine, Karangahake Gorge,
Auckland
Walk some of the finest coastline in New Zealand. Visit a goldmine
in Waihi, once the world’s richest goldmine. After lunch, stop
at the ruins of the old Crown battery on the banks of the
Ohinemuri River before taking a walk into a rock gorge with
the river rushing below. Return to Auckland. (B,L)
